faded indigo kimono jacket
This one of a kind indigo love child is part Happi (Japanese Kimono) part California dreaming and ALL vintage handwoven indigo strip cloth from Burkina Faso, West Africa.
These beautiful textiles start with hand spun cotton that is woven in small strips then sewn together to create the cloth.
The whole process takes weeks. Even longer when you consider they grew the cotton and indigo!
Asymmetric collar details with tassles and hand finished details.
As with many vintage things these textiles have signs of wear and care. Many have been mended and patched when I find them. When more mending is necessary I add my own -often mimicking the original artists techniques. When possible I highlight mending and work with the natural edges to waste as little as possible and also to feature the life of the textile.
